Michigan train travel is as varied as the state itself.  The state offers vast waterways with the Great Lakes and with many other lakes and rivers that carve through the landscape to create some of the most beautiful scenery you will see that changes with the seasons.

The state offers many choices of train adventures for every taste and preference.  Here are some of our favorites:

Adrian and Blissfield Rail Road Company

Located in Blissfield this train offers Friday, Saturday, and Sunday rides fit for the whole family.  See the famous farms of southeastern Michigan while having dinner in the Old Road Dinner Train.

Coe Rail Family Train
Steam Train Michigan
Located in Walled Lake, this train will take you on a step back in history as you board the vintage train and travel around the Walled Lake area.

Coopersville and Marne Railway

Located in Coopersville you can travel around the area aboard the all-volunteer excursions operated train in the summer months.

Detroit Downtown Trolleys

Located in Detroit, these trolleys are the best way to travel around this big city.  The trolleys are a century old and the experience includes whistle stops by a uniformed conductor.

Huckleberry Railroad

Located in Flint these trains consist of seven locomotives complete with two cabooses.  It is a fun Michigan train travel adventure to ride in each coach and the caboose for a historical ride through the Flint area.

Junction Valley Railroad

Located in Bridgeport is the largest “quarter-size” railroad in the world.  This is a two-mile ride through the tunnels, trestles, and over bridges for a family fun adventure.

Lake Linden and Tourch Lake RailRoad

Located in Lake Linden this steam locomotive takes you on a ride experienced back in time in the Lake Linden area for Michigan train travel at its finest.

Iron Mountain Iron Mine

Located in Iron Mountain this train offers an adventure unlike your typical train rides.  This train takes you through the tunnels down into the iron mines to see how it looks 400 feet below the earth’s surface.  There are 2600 feel of tunnels in this adventure.

Michigan Transit Museum

Located in Mt. Clemens, this train ride takes you on a journey back in time for 45 minutes.  Once serving the sugar beet mill, it now offers tourists an adventure to see the farms, industries, and suburban.  You can also view the Selfridge Military Air museum along the journey.

Southern Michigan Railroad

Located in Clinton this passenger train takes you through Clinton and Tecumseh, crossing the River Raisin a couple of times and showing you the beautiful scenery of the countryside.

Spirit of Traverse City

Located in Traverse City, a favorite tourist area, is a steam locomotive created as a miniature train at the Clinch Park Zoo and Marina.  The train is open to all ages and it will take you around the zoo and marina.
Tahquamenon River
Toonerville Trolley

Located in Newberry this train takes you on a trip via a trolley through 5 and a half miles of thick forest.  Along the way, you may see birds, deer, and even a bear.  The train travels to the Tahquamenon River, where you leave the trolley and board a riverboat for a 21-mile cruise.

So no matter where you are in Michigan, there is bound to be a train nearby to help you to start your new adventure!
